The Bucket List

Fri Jun 6, 2008, 1:41 PM
So I have been reading a lot online lately about people composing their Bucket Lists. I've had a WordPad document that I've updated sporadically for a few years with things I want to do before I kick it (needless to say, it is a fucking mile long). Some of them are crazy, some of them I will definitely never get to doing, and some I won't post because they are just for me, but without further ado:

1. Go to :Sweden, Germany, England, France, Holland, Italy, BVI, Australia, Greece
2. Get my ears pinned (LOL vanity)
3. Work for myself, own a bookstore or write
4. Get the phoenix finished
5. Get the script tattoo
6. Road trip with the Boops and Co.
7. Write a book (publishing it I doubt, but just writing it would make me proud)
8. Master French and Spanish
9. Live near a lake, river, or the ocean preferably and be able to kayak whenever I want
10. Become part of an animal rescue league
11. Volunteer for a literacy organization
12. Work for myself, maybe freelance writing or professional blogging? Oh I can dream..
13. Raise happy, healthy, kind productive members of society
14. Go on a scuba diving trip
15. Take a massage class
16. Triathalon
17. Learn to spin poi
18. Become a certified nutritionist (not really a career desire, I just have an obsession with nutrition ever since Sean had emergency surgery as a result of eating shitty)
19. Take swing dance (I know it's hilariously out-dated, but it just looks SO fun!)
20. Go skydiving with dad (that's right mom and Sean, IT WILL HAPPEN, haha)
21. Get a Mac

Within the next 12 months:

1. Find someone who actually likes to go out and do random fun things
2. Get a moleskine and write like a motherfucker
3. Master one of the dreaded Crossfit routines
4. Fix the hole in the hallway wall and paint the kitchen
5. Actually finish NanoWrimo this year
6. Learn to fucking drive (I am still scared of this, get the hell over it already self)
7. Get my weight down to what it should be and maintain it
8. Take a photography course
9. Get First Aid certified, and volunteer with local Disaster Response team (the flood made me realize how important it is to know what to do in emergencies)
10. Take the Writing Hurts course @ UNB
11. Create a writing portfolio
12. Be able to do a pull up, the splits properly, and hand-stand push-ups
13. Go to Jazz and Blues festival this summer
14. In that vein, go to more local music shows, the Movies Under the Stars they have here in Freddy in the park at night, the summer plays, and all the other fun local things I always miss out on
15. Laugh often and hard with the people I love, particularly the Boops
16. Get a video camera and record more of the above occurences
17. Spend a sunny day alone at P Point and just relax
18. Replace my poor worn out rollerblades with sexy new ones
19. Stretch my ears a teensy bit (no bigger than 8G, I only like the tiny cute ones that can go back to normal when you take them out)
20. Write for herenb and bookslut.com
21. Finish the last few courses I need to graduate, and embark on my big scary journey into OMFGADULTHOOD
22. At least one more lighthouse trip before summer ends.

So what is my one, single word mantra for this year then? FOCUS. Mediocrity and complacency are the enemy. I don't want to be 40 and have absolutely bloody well nothing crossed off of this list; that's more terrifying to me than anything, even the creepy Japanese kids from the horror movies that skitter sideways on all fours like a crab. :P So heeeeere goes something!

EDIT: For further proof of why 15 and 16 need to happen: [link]

I especially love in the first one how everyone shuts up when the lights go on and we realize someone is recording. For context, this is post-bar and post-walk down the trail, and 4AM, so we are all out of it.

... I really miss those days :/
